Hugo Schaer, Ukraine / Switzerland, 2003

THE KYIV TRILOGY.  Part 2.  Birkenwalzer (Birch Waltz)
Hugo Schaer, Ukraine / Switzerland, 2002
Nominated for a prize of international festival VIPER in Basel, Switzerland
An ode to the Ukrainian winter, whose coldness makes its presence felt harshly in „Birkenwalzer“: ice fishermen tugging perfunctorily at their fishing-lines, a swimmer diving into the sluggish, gloomy water, athletes at exercice machines under a frosty sky. The scenes, whose limited, confined movements are constantly in danger of freezing, are aligned on a rigid tile structure placed on two edges of the image.

THE KYIV TRILOGY (1997 – 2003)

THE KYIV TRILOGY.  Part 1.  Demarsch (Demarch)
Hugo Schaer, Ukraine / Switzerland, 2001, with honors
Music Volodymyr Huba, Ukraine
Central to the video work „Demarsch“ is a music composition, a contradictory piano piece from Volodymyr Huba, in which marching steps and slogan cries quarrel with harmonies and melodies.
